Migration, Stories of a Journey: Accademia Apulia Photography Award 2011 Winner Announced

Accademia Apulia, a non-profit network of professionals in the United Kingdom, has announced the winner of its 2011 photography award. The competition, entitled "Migration, Stories of a Journey" aimed to promote up-and-coming photographers of all nationalities based in the European Union whose work explores the lives and development of migrants worldwide.

Paolo Patrizi from Rome won the €1000 cash grand prize which was presented to him by the Lord Mayor of Westminster Susie Burbridge at Royal Horseguards in London's Whitehall on 10 February 2012.

In attendance were the former Secretary of State for immigration, Barbara Roche, now Chair of the Migration Museum Project; the Consul General of Italy, Uberto Vanni d'Archirafi, and writer and filmmaker Naomi Gryn. Presenting the awards were Tim Hancock, Amnesty International Campaign Director and Clarissa Azkoul, IOM UK's Chief of Mission.

A selection of photographs from 30 finalists were displayed at the venue, and highlighted the difficulties experienced by migrants worldwide as they seek a better life in their host countries.
