IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration with its Headquaters in Geneva. IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.

IOM acts with its partners in the international community to:

  • Encourage social and economic development through migration
  • Uphold the human dignity and well-being of migrants
  • Advance the understanding of migration issues

The Federal Republic of Germany has been member of IOM since 1954. IOM in Germany is represented with two offices, in Berlin and in Nuremberg.

IOM Germany promotes and strengthens relations and liaisons with relevant counterparts in government, international organizations, the private sector and other partners at the national level with a view of creating strategic partnerships. Furthermore, the mission is responsible for fundraising in Germany for IOM’ global, regional and national programmes and projects.

In close cooperation with governmental and non-governmental partners from the political world and the civil society and the research, IOM Germany implements national and international projects in the area of migration.
