Migration Issues

The phenomenon of migration has increasingly achieved a more predominant position in the agendas of state authorities within the countries of the Southern Cone region. Fundamental advances have taken place in migration policies, evidenced by the approval of new norms (migration and anti-trafficking laws) and the signing of bilateral and multilateral agreements – all of them based on international treaties of human rights. IOM’s strategy in the region will focus mainly on providing technical cooperation to governments on migration management and combating trafficking, while protecting the human rights of migrants.
