    Philippines - Kimberly Medina, a student at Mobo National High School in Masbate, Philippines, sits at her desk listening to her teacher. Every school day, she pays Php 50 for a ride on a habal-habal before having to walk another hour to school. The opportunity to make the trip is welcome though. Many times, her seat at school would remain empty because her parents didn't have enough money for her transportation fare.

  • Philippines: Rebuilding Lives by Rebuilding Homes

    Philippines - A few days into the new year, villagers in the provinces of Rizal and Laguna are busy settling into their new homes. Small makeshift decorations hang from the houses of these residents, who last year spent the holiday season in evacuation centres or on the street wondering if they would ever have a home to call their own again.

    Pakistan - Most people in Punjab have returned to their places of origin three months after devastating floods started to inundate large parts of Pakistan. But many flood victims have found their houses destroyed and now have to rebuild their livelihoods from scratch. Many have lost all their belongings and savings and are now living in makeshift shelters in the rubble or in the remains of their damaged houses.
