Some 1,500 Haitians from the southern city of Jacmel who were left homeless by the January 2010 earthquake can now call Camp Mayard home.

IOM is focusing efforts on containing the spread of cholera in camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Among the activities are hygiene promotion and a cholera information campaign. IOM Haiti's graphic cartoon newspaper, Chimen Lakay recently released an issue about cholera prevention. The newspaper is being supplemented by a live radio show from IDP camps which is broadcast nationwide.

Haiti
IOM moves 110 families residing in Corail-Cesselesse into newly constructed transitional shelters after a violent storm on 24 September damaged or flooded many tents in the camp. Over the weekend, IOM and its humanitarian partners distributed tarpaulins, tents and shelter kits to those affected by the storm.

Haiti
While over 200,000 Haitians died in the earthquake, over a million residents were left in desperate need for food, water, medical assistance and shelter. Right from the start of the relief operations, it was all about saving lives and getting vital aid to the victims as quickly as possible. Soon after, the planning and construction of transitional shelter began. Donors have pledged a total of US$ 9.9 billion to help rebuild Haiti.
