Intersessional Workshops

The International Dialogue on Migration (IDM) was launched during IOM's Council in 2001, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of IOM.

In addition to taking place annually during the IOM Council Session, the dialogue continues between Council Sessions in the form of intersessional workshops.  In recognition of the fact that other policy domains, such as development, trade, labour and health, are increasingly relevant to migration management, these intersessional workshops are often structured to explore the linkages between international migration and other domains – a "migration and … " approach.  Accordingly, the workshops provide an opportunity to investigate the multidisciplinary aspects of migration, and to foster important linkages with related policy fields.

The workshops bring together policy makers and government migration practitioners focused on migration, as well as those working on the "related" discipline covered by the specific workshop.  The workshops are convened with the support of donor governments, often in partnership with relevant organizations and institutions.
