Han-Maurits Schaapveld

SCHAAPVELD, Han-Maurits was born on 9 February 1957 at Bloemendaal, The Netherlands. In 1977 he graduated of the London School of Economics (Bachelor Economics & International Relations), and in 1981 he received Master’s International Law, University of Leiden. Mr Schaapveld joined the Diplomatic Service of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1981. Thereafter he served un the Embassy of the Netherlands in Lagos, Nigeria; and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Between 1988 and 1991 he served as Assistant Secretary of the Council of Ministers, The Hague and in Netherlands Embassy in Dakar, Senegal (from 1991 till 1994). Mr Schaapveld then worked at West Africa Desk, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the Netherlands Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia (1998 – 2002). In 2002 he was appointed Ambassador of The Netherlands to Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou and since 2006 he has served as Director Migration and Asylum at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Hague.
