IOM Facilitates Italy Visit for Egypt’s Minister of State for Emigration, Expatriates

Egypt - IOM is facilitating an official visit to Italy for Egypt’s Minister of State for Emigration and Expatriate Affairs from 15-19 December 2015.

Minister Nabila Abdel Shahid, who will be accompanied by representatives of Egypt’s National Council of Childhood and Motherhood and National Committee for Combating and Preventing Irregular Migration, will meet with successful Egyptian migrants in Rome and Milan. The delegation will also visit several reception and permanent shelters accommodating Egyptian unaccompanied migrant children in Rome and southern Italy.

“Migration is a key enabler for development at the global level. Egypt is well positioned to maximize the contribution of its estimated six to eight million expatriates abroad. This visit is important to establish links with Egyptian expatriates in Italy to foster the development of Egypt and address other outstanding issues,” said IOM Egypt Head of Office Amr Taha, who will accompany the minister.

The visit is part of IOM Egypt’s ongoing cooperation with the Ministry for Emigration to support its efforts to establish links with Egyptians living abroad and engage them in the development of their communities of origin. The visit will serve as an opportunity to build networks and relationships between the Egyptian government and expatriates and will provide a venue to discuss their respective priorities.
