Ethiopia - IOM, in close collaboration with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA), is this week organizing a Training of Trainers (ToT) on labour migration for Ethiopian government officials from 14-17 December 2015 at the Ellily International Hotel in Addis Ababa, as part of the IOM Development Fund-backed project: “Strengthening Labour Migration Management in Ethiopia”.

The four-day ToT aims to contribute to the establishment of a sustainable mechanism for the transfer of knowledge and skills between and among national government actors. It will bring together 25 participants from the federal and regional levels, representing all nine regions and two city administrative districts of Ethiopia.

The training is being delivered by IOM labour migration experts from South Africa and Egypt, two regional labour markets of particular interest to Ethiopia. Government labour migration experts from Nigeria and Sri Lanka will also share their experience.

The curriculum will include theoretical sessions on labour migration principles and trends, as well as practical, hands-on sessions to enable the trainees to gain presentation, communication and public speaking skills critical for them to become effective trainers.

Within the framework of the same project, on 18 December 2015, IOM and MoLSA are organizing a one-day high-level roundtable discussion on labour migration management for policymakers and senior officials.

This meeting will aim to improve the knowledge and understanding of government policymakers in the executive, legislative and judiciary branches, as well as other relevant stakeholders, about effective labour migration management.
