Philip Bob Jusu – African Union Commission

I have more than 10 years cognate experience working with difference organizations in Sierra Leone, New Zealand, Kosovo and Ethiopia. I have since 2011 worked the African Union as Migration Programme Officer. On this post, I have worked with numerous partners to implement the Migration Policy Framework for Africa, Ouagadougou Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings, the African Common Position on Migration and Development, the Joint AU-EU Declaration on Migration and Development and related international instruments in African Union Member States and Regional Economic Communities. I also managed the AU-EU Migration, Mobility and Employment (MME) Partnership and facilitated the establishment of Africa-Arab Technical and Coordination Committee (TCCM) on Migration. I have thus worked in numerous countries across Africa on several migration related activities.

From 2007 to 2010 I served as Political Affairs Officer with the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) where I provided advice and policy guidance to national and local structures on returns, resettlement and reintegration, as well as community development and stabilization initiatives.

In New Zealand, I worked with RMS Refugee Resettlement to provide support for refugees that were resettled in the country. This gave me the opportunity to broaden my culture horizon by working with refugees from Afghanistan, Colombia, Nepal, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo and Myanmar. In my native Sierra Leone, I worked with various organizations to promote the human rights of war affected victims (both combatants and non-combatants), and facilitated humanitarian assistance to refugees, IDPs and returnees during the civil war.

In 2011, I completed a NOHA Master of Science in Humanitarian Action from University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland. Prior to that, in 2007, I completed a Master of Social Sciences, majoring in Public Policy, from Waikato University in New Zealand. I gained my Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons) degree from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone in 2003.
