ACTIVITIES:


IOM has a country mission in Jakarta, Indonesia and has an operating field office in Banda Aceh, which was carrying out a project to assist IDPs and local communities, and in Medan, North Sumatra.

IOM plans to provide relief assistance to about 500,000 beneficiaries in the coastal areas of Aceh Province. IOM's office in Banda Aceh serves as a logistics centre for other agencies operating in the areas. The budget of this six-month operation is USD 57,000,000.

Results:

  • Procurement from Medan, Jakarta
  • Land (trucks) and air transport system from North Sumatra (Medan) and Jakarta to Aceh
  • Storage in primary and secondary distribution centers/ warehouses
  • Coordination of Transport of goods from Banda Aceh airport to affected areas, (Capital, surroundings areas and West coast
  • Distribution of goods within Banda Aceh and affected areas to hospitals, camps, schools, mosques

Results:

  • Coordinate IDP management with other relevant agencies (UNHCR, OCHA, WFP, WHO)
  • Assume immediate responsibility in terms of logistics, communication and transportation (including petrol, gasoline supply)
  • Assume secondary responsibility in terms of temporary shelter, food/medicine/water supply
  • Set up family reunification program based on experience and support network in Aceh and based on IOMs recent experience on this matter in other provinces in Indonesia

Results: In coordination with other agencies, distribution of essential food and non-food items to affected populations for immediate turn. (water, water purification tables, hygiene products, rubber boots, masks, body bags, power generators, gasoline, diesel); development and support to supplemental medical care facilities and services to meet priority hospital and other medical facility needs
