Located on the Abidjan-Lagos corridor in the Gulf of Guinea, Benin has a rich history closely intertwined with migratory dynamics. It serves as a crossroads for migration, acting as both an origin, transit, and destination point for migrants from neighboring countries and beyond. The country's complex migratory landscape involves diverse patterns encompassing men, women, and children. Border management is of paramount importance in the context of migration in Benin due to its strategic geographic position and substantial influx of migrants crossing its borders. Effective border governance is essential for enhancing security, managing migratory flows, and addressing pressing issues such as human trafficking and irregular migration.

Since 2012, IOM Benin has been at the forefront, actively collaborating with the Beninese Government and various stakeholders to address the multidimensional challenges associated with migration. This collaborative effort includes initiatives aimed at strengthening border management capacities, combating human trafficking and related practices, mitigating conflicts, and preventing violent extremism in border areas. Additionally, IOM Benin is committed to addressing the needs of vulnerable migrants and implementing measures to promote their well-being.

Guided by the commitment to create a welcoming environment for migrants, advocate for their rights, and improve the overall well-being of society, IOM Benin works diligently to foster a supportive atmosphere where migrants can thrive and make a positive contribution to society.
