L’OIM forme les responsables malgaches sur des accords de travail bilatéraux

République Centre-Africaine - IOM in the Central African Republic (CAR) facilitated a workshop on counter trafficking for government, UN and NGO counterparts in the capital, Bangui, on Thursday (22/9).

The workshop was designed to assess levels of trafficking in persons across the country to reduce vulnerability to human trafficking and other forms of exploitation. Victims include vulnerable migrants, internally displaced persons and host communities affected by the ongoing crisis.

The country is a source, transit and destination country for children exploited into forced labour and sex trafficking, for women subjected to forced prostitution, and adults subjected to forced labour.

While an outbreak of violence in September 2015 forced stakeholders to put on hold their counter trafficking efforts, the workshop brought the humanitarian community together to discuss the current status of human trafficking in the country.

IOM remains committed to work with its counterparts on this issue and will set up programmes on prevention and protection against human trafficking, and border management.

The workshop was part of an IOM project funded by Germany: “Strengthening the response capacity and awareness at the national level to fight against human trafficking and other forms of exploitation in the Central African Republic".
