Preparations for Global Thematic Consultation on Population Dynamics:

Following an Expert Group Meeting among members of academia (demographers and migration specialists) that took place in New York between 19-20 November, IOM has contributed to an outcomes document that will form part of a report from the Global Thematic Consultations on Population Dynamics.
In addition to the Expert Group Meeting of academics, consultations will also be held with Civil Society representatives (February 2013 in Geneva) and the private sector (February 2013 in New York). IOM has been confirmed as a lead organizing agency on the Civil Society meeting in Geneva.
An on-line consultation on the post-2015 development framework was launched in October. See here: http://www.worldwewant2015.org/. IOM and selected migration experts will be called on to moderate a specific discussion on migration.
Work in the UN Task Team Working Group on Partnerships for post-2015:
The Partnerships Working Group (WG), which is part of the UN Task Team (UNTT) established by the Secretary-General to coordinate post-2015 activities across the UN system, has been developing a think-piece on partnerships, with the final text likely to be ready by mid-December or early January. IOM has provided contributions and analysis on the concept of “partnerships”, trade, financing for development and Disaster Risk Reduction.

Migration Policy Institute event on “Migration as an Enabler for Development”:

On Tuesday, 11 December, the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) and the incoming Swedish Chair of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) convened a brainstorming session in Washington, DC to discuss “Migration as an Enabler for Development.” The brainstorming session drew on the expertise of development leaders to better understand how low and lower-middle-income countries can make more productive use of the opportunities that migration offers. The IOM actively participated in this event and is exploring opportunities to contribute to a follow-up paper on migration and the post-2015 development framework.
