50 communities stand ready to receive their “reintegration dividend”

As part of the German funded community stabilization project for returnees from Libya, IOM is providing a “reintegration dividend” – a small scale socio-economic infrastructure project – chosen and designed by the community itself. 50 communities have submitted their proposals ranging from community mills to rehabilitation of medical centre and from estalishment of public libraries to income generating projects for women. IOM is currently in the process of finalizing the procurement process and will send the equipment to the field in the coming days.

Meanwhile communities are participating in a socialization campaign in the areas of intervention (Bahr el Gazal, Faya, Kanem and Ndjamena). Following a participative socialization theatre featuring a life goat, troubadours are currently visiting the communities to reinforce the project’s objective. Returnees and communities have repeatedly expressed their high satisfaction with the project’s progress. Despite the delays due to heavy rainy season and the closing of the Libyan borders, which necessitated several communities to redesign their proposals, the project is well on track.
