Cambodian Consular Officials Complete Study Tour in Malaysia

Cambodian consular officials have taken part in an IOM study tour
to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of a Canadian-funded consular
capacity-building project designed to combat trans-border crime.

As part of the tour, participants attended a full-day briefing
at the Southeast Asia Regional Centre for Counter-Terrorism
(SEARCCT), a department set up by the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign
Affairs to provide training on security matters relating to
intelligence and policy in combating trans-border crime amongst the
ASEAN countries.

The Cambodian delegation was also briefed by the Malaysian
Department of Immigration at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport
on innovative enforcement of immigration, registration and
customs-related laws.

Other briefings were provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
on Malaysian consular structure and functions and the Ministry of
Home Affairs on regular and irregular migration patterns in
Malaysia.

"The study tour represented a unique opportunity for the
participants to discuss their respective systems and share best
practices at the national and the regional level," says IOM project
manager Giuseppe Crocetti.
