EU, IOM Back Yemeni National Migration Policy

Following a two-day workshop held in Sana'a this week under the
auspices of Minister for Immigrants Affairs Ahmed Mosaed Hussein,
the Government of Yemen is to establish an inter-Ministerial Policy
Task Force (PTF) to articulate and enhance the country's national
migration policies.

The establishment of a complementary Legislative Task Force
(LTF) will be discussed at a second workshop next week.

Both entities will receive IOM technical support under a broader
IOM migration and border management programme: "Empowering
Government and Civil Society in Yemen to Address Mixed
Migration."

This EUR 2 million programme, funded by the European Union under
the Instrument for Stability, will allow IOM to help the government
to address emerging security and humanitarian issues linked to the
large numbers of vulnerable migrants and asylum seekers travelling
to Yemen from countries in the Horn of Africa, via the Gulf of
Aden.

Within the framework of this programme, IOM will also conduct
training to enhance frontline migration and border management
capacity in Yemen over the coming 18 months. IOM will also support
the government's efforts to enhance technology and infrastructure
at key land, air and sea ports.
