IOM Conducts Camp Coordination and Camp Management Training in Response to Ongoing Drought in Somalia
Baidoa - The Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster (CCCM) conducted its first ever training in Somalia on Wednesday 26 July 2017. The one day training in Baidoa facilitated by the UN Migration Agency (IOM) focused on training participants on the basics of Camp Coordination and Camp Management, the roles and responsibilities of CCCM, and community participation and engagement. The training targeted 25 people from international and national NGOs, local government institutions and UN agencies.
Since the beginning of the drought, Baidoa has received more than 175,000 displaced people, the majority of whom are living in spontaneous settlements in and around the town. IOM as the co-lead of CCCM cluster together with UNHCR, aims at building the capacities of different actors and raise standards, ensuring an appropriate response to the needs of displaced populations across Somalia. This is achieved through coordination and information management services both at national and at regional level, construction of staff Information Centres in key areas of displacement to serve as information hubs that can facilitate two way communications with affected communities.
IOM continues to work with all stakeholders to ensure coordination and management of displacement sites, identifying gaps in services and supporting durable solutions to displacement. Through its CCCM activities IOM is supporting service providers, particularly those providing basic needs in health, Water and Sanitation, food as well as protection, to improve the response to the needs of the affected communities in displacement sites.
