IOM Hosts EU-China Dialogue on Migration and Mobility Support Project

China - IOM’s Liaison Office in China is preparing to launch the implementation of theEU-China Dialogue on Migration and Mobility Support Project - an initiative funded by European Commission’s Partnership Instrument and implemented by IOM and the International Labour Organization (ILO.) 

A first coordination meeting was held today in Beijing. It brought together all the main actors, including a high-level EU delegation led by Matthias Ruete, Director General of the Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs (DG HOME), who is on official visit in Beijing to attend the EU-China High-Level Dialogue on Migration and Mobility.

Representatives of the EU Delegation in China, high-level representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Commerce, State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, ILO and IOM also attended. 

IOM China Chief of Mission in China Pär Liljert said: “The project aims to foster better cooperation between the EU and China and generate more inclusive strategic dialogue on opportunities and challenges related to migration and mobility.”

Participants at the meeting also discussed the project framework, main focus areas and activities throughout its three-year lifespan.

All parties demonstrated their full commitment to doing their part in carrying out this initiative and acknowledged the importance of reaching a common understanding at policy-level on migration and mobility between the EU and China. This will impact social and economic development and facilitate movement of people between the EU and China.
