IOM ‘Migrants Contribute’ Team Takes Part in Peace Run in The Hague

Netherlands - On Saturday, supporters of IOM “Migrants Contribute” campaign will run in The Hague for the “Peace Run”.

The “Peace Run” is a major event in the Netherlands with tens of thousands of participants during the ‘Just Peace Weekend’, organized in view of Sunday UN World Peace Day. Migrants originating form ten different countries will join the IOM team running five to ten kilometres under the slogan “It’s Amazing What Migrants Bring” to highlight the positive effects of migration.

The IOM’s team will include as well representatives from the Dutch government and NGOs as well as IOM staff from The Hague and Brussels.

Every runner of the team will wear a t-shirt carrying the campaign slogan. Some runners will also carry suitcases with the campaign’s visuals.

With this campaign, IOM aims to address common misconceptions on migration by providing a balanced view by focusing on the positive contributions migrants bring to the societies they live in. It’s important what migrants bring, not where they come from.

IOM believes that emphasizing migrant contributions will help societies to overcome stereotypes and to recognize the advantages of migration.
