IOM Slovenia Attends Sixth Diaspora Development Dialogue

Slovenia - Between 1 and 3 December 2016 the Africa-Europe Diaspora Development Platform (ADEPT) together with the Institute for African Studies from Slovenia and Humanitas Afrika – Czech African Humanitarian Initiative organized the Sixth Diaspora Development Dialogue (DDD6) in Piran, Slovenia.

IOM Slovenia attended the second day of the event, “Migration and Integration: Actions for Inclusive Development”, an international conference which discussed practical actions that could be taken by the diaspora and civil society, private sector, media and other stakeholders to promote and facilitate effective migrant and diaspora integration. The conference closed with a presentation of the DDD6 Declaration on “Migration and Integration for Inclusive Development” and an invitation to the participants to endorse and sign the said document.

In the framework of the community event “Mediterranean and Maritime Migration over the Centuries” held on 3 December 2016, ADEPT supported IOM’s Global Migration Film Festival, an event taking place worldwide to celebrate IOM’s 65th anniversary and International Migrants Day. After the screening of short films, a discussion on current Mediterranean migration followed with the Officer in Charge of IOM Slovenia, Iva Perhavec, the Interim Director of ADEPT Gibril Faal, the Director of Maritime Museum, Franco Juri and the coordinator of Sea-Watch Berlin, Françoise Greve on the risks and dangers associated with the journey across the Mediterranean.
