IOM joins forces with UNCTAD and UNHCR to work on entrepreneurship for migrants and refugees

IOM works on migrant entrepreneurship in many programme contexts – community development and stabilization; integration and reintegration; support to vulnerable groups of migrants and engaging with diasporas. IOM`s work in this area remains unknown to many partners and donors, however. With the release of the new IOM/UNCTAD/UNHCR Policy Guide on Entrepreneurship for Migrants and Refugees, we hope that the link between self-employment and human mobility will be firmly established; concrete steps and actions will be identified to improve access of migrants and refugees to entrepreneurship opportunities; as well as capitalize on skills and resources that migrant entrepreneurs bring to communities where they reside in or come from. The guide is a first step in this broad UN partnership, to be followed up by country level workshops; development and pilot testing of a joint assessment methodology, as well as launching a joint UN global initiative. LHD and TRD specialists at regional and global levels can provide further information.
