UNHCR is to provide US$2.25 million to
support IOM's operations to facilitate the voluntary, safe and
dignified return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from relief
camps in Pakistan's earthquake-affected areas to their home
Government officials from each of
Afghanistan's 34 provinces today concluded a two-day IOM workshop
in Kabul aimed at coordinating the fight against human trafficking
in one of Asia's poorest countries.
As a founding member of the
Inter-institutional Committee for Ecuador's Water and Sanitation
Sector (CIASE, by its Spanish acronym), IOM has signed a Letter of
Commitment to help promote inter-institutional cooperation and
IOM Director General Brunson McKinley and
the Iberian-American Secretary, Enrique Iglesias, signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen technical
cooperation on migration issues in the Iberian-American
IOM has started a rubble removal and
recycling programme to help the local authorities to remove some 16
million cubic feet of earthquake debris in Muzaffarabad, the
capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Although international migration has moved
to the top of governments' agendas, there is little if any
information on indigenous peoples and migration or a framework for
addressing the phenomenon consistently and systematically.
Six months after the devastating earthquake
that struck South Asia on October 8, 2005, the emergency
‘Winter Race" to save lives in Northwest Frontier Province
(NWFP) and Pakistan-Administered Kashmir (PAK) is officially over.
A group of 225 opthalmologic nurses and
operating theatre personnel specializing in eye care from hospitals
in seven districts will attend an IOM / Australian Red Cross (ARC)
training workshop in Colombo on Sunday, April 9th.
