Regional Response to Ebola Crisis | 17 April 2015

Since the Ebola outbreak in West Africa was first reported in March 2014, to date, there have been 25,791 confirmed probable and suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) with 10,600 fatalities (41%), according to the current UNMEER report, dated 15 April 2015. IOM is continuing its Ebola response in West Africa, which aims to strengthen containment and control capacities to prevent the spread of EVD, reduce disease burden, and to contribute to “getting to zero cases.”

IOM continues to respond to the current crisis in Iraq through non-food item and shelter distribution, livelihoods assistance, and health and psychosocial support, in order to assist the most vulnerable displaced persons and host-communities. 

South Sudan Regional Situation Report | 16 April 2015

There are currently 1.5 million people displaced in South Sudan, with over 522,000 people having fled to neighbouring Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan. Over 112,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) are sheltering within UNMISS Protection of Civilian (PoC) sites across the country, predominantly in Bentiu and the three Juba PoC sites. Some 2.5 million people are facing crisis or emergency levels of food insecurity and the outlook for 2015 is dire. 

Yemen - Regional Situation Report | 16 April 2015

The humanitarian situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate rapidly. Four additional governorates have experienced active fighting in the last days. In total, 18 out of Yemen’s 22 Governorates are now affected by the crisis. Civilians continue to bear the brunt of the violence. Over 700 people were reported killed and nearly 3,000 injured as of 12 April (WHO). Although the overall displacement estimates coud not be verified at this stage, consistent population movements continue to be observed and reported.

The IOM Yemen team (300+ local staff) continues its activities on the ground, extending humanitarian aid in the southern and northern regions of the country. Two IOM staff are joining the OCHA - led MIRA assessment team in Adenon 9 April. Additional field assessments in Aden and Abyan are under way.

Currently 1.5 million people are internally displaced in South Sudan, with over 515,000 people seeking refuge in neighbouring Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan.
