The proposed project aims to contribute to the efforts of the Government of Botswana to address migration, environment, climate change and risk reduction (MECR) dynamics, particularly through the mainstreaming of mobility into relevant policies (Objective). To do this, the project has two Outcomes: The Government of Botswana utilize research on the MECR nexus, including current gaps in policy and strategic frameworks, to improve decision making and policy formulation (Outcome 1) and the Government of Botswana integrates mobility considerations into relevant national climate change and environment policies (Outcome 2).
This project will bring together evidence on the MECR nexus, enabling the Government to analyse the impact of natural hazards on human mobility, including gender dimensions (Output 1.1). It will also conduct a policy analysis to examine the integration of human mobility dimensions into current policy frameworks and develop recommendations (Output 1.2). Following the building of this evidence base, the project will train stakeholders at the national and local level on integrating MECR aspects into the relevant policies (Output 2.1). Lastly, the project will jointly develop a draft Climate Change and Human Mobility Strategy and Roadmap (Output 2.2), which will serve as a cornerstone for building resilience, promoting sustainable development, and safeguarding the well-being of communities in Botswana.
