Curriculum Vitae

Ambassador Michel Mordasini joined the Board of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in May 2011. He has a leading role in the orientation and delivery of Swiss multilateral aid and SDC’s response to global public challenges with a particular focus on climate change, water, food security and migration.

Prior to joining SDC, Mr. Mordasini was Executive Director on the Board of the World Bank Group (WBG), representing Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Poland, Serbia, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. In this capacity, he was involved in conducting the general operations of the World Bank and overseeing the Bank's business. He served as Chairman of the Budget Committee, one of the five Standing Committees of the WBG Board.

During the previous twelve years he had leading functions at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) in Berne in the formulation, implementation and supervision of economic and trade-related support for developing and transition countries. Macroeconomic stability, debt reduction, private sector development and aid for trade had a special focus.

Mr. Mordasini has a rich field experience in development cooperation. He was posted 14 years in developing countries. He worked for SDC in Pakistan (1988-1991) and in Tanzania (1991-1995). Prior to this he held during seven years senior positions for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in several conflict and post-conflict countries (Afghanistan, Lebanon, Iraq, Pakistan, Uganda, Republic of South Africa).

Mr. Mordasini is an economist with Master degree in political economy from the University of Geneva.
