Nigeria - IOM has identified 1,770,444 people as displaced across Nigeria through its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM). This is a decrease from the 1,822,541 recorded in late October, reflecting the continuing trend of internally displaced persons (IDPs) returning home, particularly in Borno State.
Iraq - Two months into Mosul operations, which began on 17 October, more than 99,300 Iraqis are currently displaced. Over 53,700 are from the central Mosul sub-district of Merkaz Mosul.
Iraq - Within the past week (6-12 December) over 9,800 displaced Iraqis have arrived at the Emergency Site in Al-Qayara Airstrip in Ninewa governorate.
Indonesia - At the request of the Indonesian government, IOM today deployed 16 personnel to Aceh province to begin tracking and monitoring the locations and needs of almost 84,000 people displaced by last week’s powerful earthquake.
Mozambique - Over the last decade, countries in Southern Africa have been hit by recurrent and frequent floods, droughts and strong cyclones, which have resulted in the displacement of people in both urban and rural areas.
Nigeria - According to IOM’s first regional analysis of displacement trends in the Lake Chad Basin crisis triggered by the Boko Haram insurgency, 2,635,450 individuals are now displaced in the region, both internally and across borders as refugees. An additional 1,022,950 people have returned home after being displaced. This adds up to more than 3.6 million persons directly affected by the crisis.
Nigeria - The humanitarian community will soon be able to better coordinate support for northeast Nigeria, where nearly seven million people are in need of life-saving assistance. This is thanks to the setting up of a humanitarian base camp and hub project, which will cover Borno, the state hardest hit by the Boko Haram conflict.
Indonesia - Like tens of thousands of their countrymen, residents of the Indonesian hamlet of Sukon fled their homes on Wednesday as a powerful predawn earthquake collapsed homes, businesses and places of worship, killing more than 100 people.
