People of Vanuatu build disaster resilient homes

The people of Vanuatu are taking their future back in their own hands. The nation of 83 South Pacific islands was devastated by Cyclone Pam in February 2015. *1% of homes in affected areas sustained some level of damage. Most were built using traditional methods like Natangura tree leaf roof tiles. 65,000 people were displaced by the devastation. 2 years later, by upgrading local building techniques to make them environmentally appropriate and more resilient to shocks. Ni-Vanuatu people are ensuring that future disasters will never have the same impact.
